Under what conditions are first aid medications permitted?

Not permitted unless MedLink directed or from EMK/prescribed.

First aid medications on board require medical direction to ensure they’re appropriate, safe, and correctly dosed for the passenger’s symptoms and medical history. The in-flight medical kit and MedLink/EMK system provide authority and guidance before any administration, so medications aren’t given based on crew discretion or timing alone. This oversight helps prevent adverse reactions, interactions, or allergies and ensures proper indications are met. It’s not about a fixed observation period or a limited scope like pain control; authorization is the determining factor for use.

Allowed for any symptoms at crew discretion.

Allowed after 10 minutes of observation.

Allowed for pain management only.
